National Day of Prayer

We had Bible study this morning.  The pastor, Rev. Larry Ross and his wife Janet sang several hymns for us. Rev. Ross plays the guitar-they both sing, harmonize beautifully together.  Today he had a new "toy"-a bluetooth speaker which played whatever he selected on his smart phone .Amazing! It is sad that more residents do not come to this. There were only 3 of us, and one of those was Janet's mother, Amy, who lives at Joseph's Dream. They are Southern baptists.  I am not.  Doesn't make any difference.  I love the new hymns I have learned and they do sing some of the old ones from the hymnal with which I am familiar.  Rev. Ross gives good lessons from the Bible.  Sometimes his interpretation is not as mine, but again, it is not a cause for argumentation, but rather a source for good discussion.
Today is National Day of Prayer Day and if ever a country needed prayer, it is the United States of  America RIGHT NOW.  Rev. Ross brought us print-outs of the prayer posted on the internet today by
Dr. Ronnie Floyd,  Senior pastor, Cross Church, President, National Day of Prayer Task Force.
It is a rather lengthy prayer, strong, covers it all.  I will not post it here, but it would be worth anyone's while to look it up, no matter what your religious preference.  We few prayed it together.  I think I will
read (and pray) it over again tonight and also add my own prayer-that someone is out there somewhere-
listening.
I know there are may people like Larry and Janet who give of their time and talent to bring joy to elderly
and shut-ins.  Today they were telling about a nursing home they visit regularly where the residents come
to life when they sing the old hymns together.  They tap their toes and wave their arms while husky,
often off-key voices sing out in delight.  Minds which have forgotten the names of their aides, suddenly recall all the words to the hymns they sang in their youth.  Far better than any medicine, the healing these
generous people bring.
So in this special day of prayer, may I offer---blessings on those who give, blessings on the dogs who
comfort, (yes, cats too), and blessings on America -
Amen.
